It is unfortunate that there are a small minority of unscrupulous breeders who see pedigree cats as nothing more than a source of income and treat their cats and kittens accordingly. We’ve learnt from chats with many people who have found out all too late that they’ve been sold a kitten that was underage, infected with an unpleasant disease (for example ringworm – which is also highly contagious for humans), not vaccinated or was not a genuine pedigree. Please don’t fall victim to these breeders and support their cruel practices.
Wherever you go to buy your new kitten, make sure it is:
- From a GCCF (Governing Council of the Cat Fancy) registered breeder
- From healthy, fit parents who have both tested DNA Negative for Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD)
- Fully vaccinated with certificates to prove this
- GCCF registered
- Insured
- At least 13 weeks of age at the point you take the kitten away
This is the only way you can be sure that the kitten you are buying is healthy, has had a proper start to life and is a pure breed. All good breeders who care about the welfare of their kittens will only sell them this way and will be delighted to discuss this subject with you.
